Korhogo: a cashew processing plant will hire 150 women by December

A cashew-nut processing plant in Korhogo's industrial zone has announced it will hire 150 women by December for shelling, sorting and packing kernels. Applications have been accepted since Monday at the company's headquarters and through several women's groups in the city.
Côte d'Ivoire is the world's leading producer of cashew nuts, but most of the harvest is still exported raw. The authorities are encouraging local processing to keep more value and jobs in the northern producing regions, where the marketing season runs from February to June.
Leaders of women's groups welcome a chance at steady employment, while asking for guarantees on wages, transport and workplace safety, since shelling exposes the skin to an irritating liquid. The company says it provides gloves and two weeks of training before starting work.
What the creator verified on Monday: the job offer posted at the company's headquarters and a first queue of applicants. What remains to be confirmed: the wage on offer and the actual start date of hiring.
