Abobo: roundabout tunnel closed for two nights to service its anti-flood pumps

The Abobo roundabout tunnel will be closed to traffic on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, from 10pm to 5am, while the pumps that drain rainwater from the structure are serviced. During those two nights, vehicles will be diverted onto the surface lanes of the junction, managed by traffic officers.
The work follows the heavy rains of June, when water built up at the tunnel's Anyama-side entrance and slowed peak-hour traffic considerably. The road agency says it wants to replace two worn pumps and clean the drainage grates before the rains expected in October.
For tricycle and gbaka drivers who work nights around the nearby station, the closure means detours and slightly longer waits at the junction. Transport operators we spoke to say they understand the operation, but are asking for better signage of the diversion, which they find hard to see at night.
What the creator verified on Monday evening: signs announcing the closure installed at both tunnel entrances. What remains to be confirmed: whether the work will actually be finished in two nights, as announced, or extended if it rains.
