Yopougon: SOTRA reroutes line 06 for three weeks of work at the bus station
Since this Monday, 14 September, the Abidjan Transport Company (SOTRA) has been rerouting its line 06 Yopougon-Plateau service via Boulevard Nangui Abrogoua while repair works, announced for three weeks, take place on the forecourt of the Yopougon-Siporex bus station. Morning commuters discovered the diversion at the first departures, with temporary stops marked by staff in orange vests.
The Siporex bus station handles several thousand passengers a day toward Plateau and Abobo, and its paving had deteriorated after the last rainy season, creating standing puddles at peak hours. SOTRA says it wants to redo the drainage before the next rainy season, keeping the works schedule to off-peak hours as much as possible.
On site, traders set up around the station fear a drop in footfall during the works, while wôrô-wôrô drivers are reorganising to pick up some of the rerouted passengers. Many residents nonetheless welcome the initiative, recalling that the standing water was a recurring health concern during the rainy season.
What the creator verified this Monday morning: construction equipment present on the forecourt, diversion signs in place since Saturday, and the first bus departures effectively rerouted. What remains to be confirmed: whether SOTRA's three-week timeline will hold, which will depend on the weather in the coming weeks.
