Ruth Gbagbi took gold at the German taekwondo Open, held in Hamburg on 19 and 20 September, beating Hungary's Luana Martan in the under-67 kilo final.

At 32, the Ivorian fighter remains her country's benchmark in the discipline, in a category where her opponents are often younger.

Taekwondo is one of the few Ivorian sports that regularly brings back international medals outside football. Yet it gets little coverage in the national media, and its regional competitions are rarely announced.

What remains to be confirmed: the federation's calendar for upcoming international events, and whether Ruth Gbagbi will take part in the next continental competitions.
